Google polishes Chrome tablet

HTC and Google in apparent alliance to launch Chrome-based tablet later this year

More details are emerging of a Chrome-based tablet PC expected to be launched by Google before Christmas. The tablet PC is expected to run Google’s Chrome operating system and will be manufactured by HTC.

To date Chrome OS, a web-focused operating system, has been purely experimental and has not been shipped on any hardware. Now it looks like Google is ready to jump into the rapidly growing tablet PC market. Chrome OS, which is built around online applications, such as Google’s Gmail and Docs applications, is Linux-based and relies on having an Internet connection to work.
