Pentaho, Datameer Join Dell’s Project Sputnik

Tech giant Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) is sending more than just a beeping stainless steel ball into orbit with Project Sputnik, the company’s six-month exploratory pilot program to create an Ubuntu Linux-based developer notebook computer.
Dell announced Pentaho, an open source business intelligence (BI) and analytics specialist, has joined the Emerging Solutions Ecosystem with its Business Analytics Solution, which couples data integration with business analytics. Pentaho leverages a graphical extract, transform and load environment for creating and managing Hadoop MapReduce jobs.
Datameer, which recently completed Dell’s certification process, is the newest member of Dell’s Emerging Solutions Ecosystem. The company provides a data integration, analytics and visualization solution that will be offered as part of the Dell Apache Hadoop solution.
To help customers build cloud infrastructure, Dell’s OpenStack-Powered Cloud Solution is now available with additional server, networking and services options.
Along with OpenStack Essex, customers can buy with Dell 12th generation PowerEdge servers, PowerConnect or Force10 switches and services from Dell, Canonical or Mirantis.
Dell is taking Project Sputnik from pilot to product this fall, launching an official developer notebook based on the company’s recently released XPS 13 Ultrabook with Ubuntu 12.04LTS preloaded.
