We actually want them to be geeks. From the earliest of ages we dress them in WoW gear, teach them to quote Star Wars and wonder when is too early to start reading The Hobbit. We nurture them in the way [...] GNU/Linux gets attacked from so many different angles. It is hilarious to read some of the comments and allegations that are made against it. I find one particular allegation hilarious and it equates GNU/Linux to Communists. So, here we go… GNU/Linux is Communism! There are huge correlations between the two. There isn’t one particular company [...] I am a Linux geek. There I said it. Actually, I am kind of proud of being a Linux geek. I slogged through the bad old days to get here. It seems like every day something new shows up that makes me glad that I chose Linux as my tool of choice. Because of the [...] Another day spent raging against (or in some kind of opposition to) the machine has left me no time to write, if I want to get to know my kids before they grow up I think, given the economy, I may have to break my streak and go to posting 3 or 4 times a [...] You may have read our collection of mythical and humorous facts about Linus Torvalds. This time around, we will give tribute to another living legend by the name of Richard M. Stallman. Since this free software evangelist has tons of loyal fans, it didn’t take long for me to gather some of the whimsical facts [...] Hey There, Here’s a little something to make you smile on the eve before you begin working all weekend This video (which can be found in its original location on YouTube) is both awkward and hilarious. It took me a while to start to chuckle, but this guy’s startup sound is one of the most [...] Hey there, Beginning another weekend of work (following a week of work, of course I thought I’d inject some more humor into this blog (since I seem to be needing it more and more). They say laughter is the best medicine. I’ll cure whatever ails ya. Before this month is out, I expect to be [...] Hey there, Once again work interferes with my plans for world domination and I have to splash around outside the local watering hole to find material As today’s title suggests, I went out and found some interesting pictures in an online post called the “Linux Crash Top 10 Pictures.” It’s apparently an answer to some [...] Many people consider Linus Torvalds as the world’s greatest computer programmer/hacker. That’s why it’s no surprise that most of his loyal fans have praised him and have told stories about his amazing accomplishments. For those of you who want to know more about Torvalds, perhaps you may want to read these mythical and rather humorous [...] Our own Geek Queen Blair Mathis is back with 50 ways to increase your Linux knowledge and help you along the way to true geekdom. 1. watch terminal star wars To start this article off right, no Linux user can claim the status of geekhood unless they’ve seen Star Wars ASCII-style. To watch a fascinating [...] Hey there, Back from sleeping about 16 or 17 hours in a row. Beginning to think that, maybe, I should have just let this blog go for the weekend. But, since I’m obsessive compulsive regarding our almost year-and-a-half streak of one-post-per-day, at least I got something posted each night. And this Monday, although this post [...] Hey there, I began attempting to write a serious tech opinion piece for today, but realized (just a paragraph or two in) that to do so would be a waste of your time and whatever mental effort I have left in store (which I may, yet, be called upon to exert, since I’m writing this [...] You know it’s a good week on the blogs when one of the top stories on Digg is a graph of Linux users’ T-shirt sizes. Yes indeed, said graph — comparing the sizes of attendees at the Linux Symposium in 1999 with those of last year’s participants — drew some 800 Diggs and 100 comments [...] If you want some high-quality Linux wallpapers for your large monitors, you can visit my collection of “25 Coolest Linux Wallpapers”. The holidays are looming larger every day now and, I don’t know about you, but it’s giving me a migraine. Lots of stress and craziness, mostly surrounding who’s getting what for whom and constantly wondering if they’re overdoing it or not doing enough. This is why, a long long time ago, [...] Sometimes bad things just happen, we all know that. And sometimes they happen to our loved ones (we’re talking about our computers here). For the last five years the data recovery company Kroll Ontrack has been publishing a yearly list of strange ways people have broken their computers and/or hard drives. We here at Pingdom [...] Each holiday, our gift lists include relatives, co-workers, party hosts, the occasional probation officer, and first and second-tier acquaintances.
