PostgreSQL Programming

2ndQuadrant is now announcing a new course on PostgreSQL Administration
using the popular Navicat, a powerful administration and development
frontend tool.

This is an important step in increasing the diversity of the PostgreSQL
ecosystem. Navicat is an important tool for both PostgreSQL and MySQL,
so supporting customer’s existing tool choices makes co-existence or
conversion/migration to PostgreSQL a cheaper and smoother experience.

Happy Birthday, PostgreSQL!

PostgreSQL

As of today, the Elephant is offically 12 years old.

On July 8, 1996, Marc Fournier set up the first public CVS server of the ten-year-old POSTGRES code. A small group of volunteer hackers started improving it, soon releasing a steady stream of improvements.

Today, PostgreSQL is one of the most popular SQL/relational databases in the world and respected throughout the industry for maturity, clean code, and unique advanced features.

So, happy birthday, PostgreSQL!

xTuple 3.0: PostgreSQL-powered ERP announces milestone release

Posted on July 8th, 2008 in PostgreSQL, Software by freesoftnews
PostgreSQL Software

xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning software, today announced the release of xTuple ERP 3.0, with an array of powerful new tools that enable ordinary system users to get more functionality from the world’s most advanced open source ERP system — with no coding required. Among the key new features is a user-friendly Screen Builder for designing customized system dashboards and the world’s only open source assemble-to-order (ATO) Product Configurator for streamlining non-inventory order processing.

“xTuple has the most powerful open source ERP system on the market, but there’s been a perception that you need to be a C++ coder or database guru in order to make changes,” said Ned Lilly, president and CEO of xTuple. “We’ve eliminated that barrier with a user interface designer that allows end-users to create new screens and menu options with literally no coding required.”

Call for Papers - European PGDay 2008

Posted on July 6th, 2008 in PostgreSQL by freesoftnews
PostgreSQL

Following the phenomenal international success of PGDay 2007, the 2008
event, to be held on October 17th and 18th will include both an Italian
program and a European program running in parallel. This call for papers
is for the European program - expect a separate one for the Italian one.

The conference will once again be held in the beautiful historic
surroundings of the Monash University Prato Centre in Prato, a small
walled town near Florence, Tuscany.

European PGDay 2008 is the main European event about PostgreSQL this
year. If you’re doing interesting PostgreSQL work in Europe or
elsewhere, this is your chance to tell people about it! Our goal is to
have a complete track of English talks during the conference, so that at
any given time there will be at least one English and one Italian talk
available to go to.
